I got to spend an afternoon at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens with Taylor. She is a Spain Park senior who’s headed to Auburn University this fall. I’ve known Taylor since she was little—she and my daughter are the same age—so getting to take her senior portraits felt extra special. I’ve photographed her family for a few years now, but seeing her step into this new season was really fun.

The gardens were basically showing off the whole time we were there. Everything was blooming, which made it the perfect spot for senior photos in Birmingham, Alabama. We had so many pretty corners to choose from! We just wandered around and stopped wherever something caught our eye. It gave her gallery a mix of colors, textures, and backgrounds without ever feeling repetitive.

Taylor brought two dresses and her Auburn sweatshirt, which worked out great. The dresses fit right in with all the flowers, and then we switched things up with the college sweatshirt for a more relaxed, personality-filled look. If you’re planning senior portraits in Birmingham, wardrobe changes like that are always a good idea—they give you a ton of variety without needing to switch locations.

Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing seniors in Birmingham. Between the Botanical Gardens, all the nearby parks, and the different looks you can create just by walking a few steps, it’s such a good area for natural, easygoing senior photos. And getting to do it for someone I’ve known forever? Even better.

If you’re looking for a senior portrait photographer in Birmingham, Hoover, or the surrounding areas, the Botanical Gardens is always a solid option—and I’d love to help you plan your session.
