Everything You Need to Know Before You Book | Birmingham, Alabama Family & Newborn Photographer
Whether you are a brand new client or someone I’ve photographed year after year, I know booking a photo session can come with a lot of questions. And honestly? I love that. I’m all about setting you up to feel relaxed, prepared, and totally confident before we ever start shooting.
So here’s a little peek behind the scened at some fo the most common questions I get asked. If you’re curious about how things work- or just wondering what to wear- I’ve got you.
How do I book a session?
Just shoot me a message, or head to my website for my booking page. If you’re not sure what kind of session you need, I’ll help you figure it out.
How far in advance should I book my session?
Newborn sessions are best booked during your second trimester to make sure I have space on my claendar. For families and seniors, I recommend reaching out 4-6 weeks ahead of time. Fall and Spring tend to book up quickly, so earlier is always better if you have a specific date in mind!
When is the best time for newborn photos?
I typically photograph newborn within the first 2-3 weeks. But since my style is lifestyle focused and relaxed, we don’t have to rush if that timing doesn’t work for you. Older babies are just as magical, and we’ll still get all those sweet snuggly moments.
What should we wear?
Don’t stress- I’ve got you covered! Once you book, I’ll send over a style guide to help you feel confident choosing outfits for everyone. Neutrals, soft tones, and simple textures always photograph beautifully, and I’m more than happy to help you pull everything together.
Where will the session take place?
Newborn sessions take place either in my natural light studio, or in your home- which ever feels more comfortable for you. For families and seniors, we’ll choose an outdoor location based on lighting, the season, and the look you’re going for. I have lots of favorite spots I’m happy to recommend.
How long will the session last?
Newborn sessions typically run about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on feedings, diaper changes, and extra siblings. Family and senior sessions usually last up to an hour. I keep everything relaxed and fun so it never feels rushed or stiff.
When will I receive my photos?
Galleries are delivered within 2 weeks after your session. You’ll get a link to view, download, and share your images- plus options to purchase prints, albums and artwork if you want to bring your photos to life off the screen.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
Honestly? They probably won’t- and that’s okay! I don’t expect little ones to sit still or smile on cue. I’ve got a whole bag of tricks for keeping things playful and low pressure. Some of my favorite photos come from the in-between moments when no one’s trying too hard.
What if the weather is bad?
If we’re doing an outdoor session and the weather looks questionable, I’ll be in touch and we’ll make a call together. I always leave room in my schedule for reschedules when needed.
Do you offer prints or albums?
Yes! Your gallery will include access to professional quality prints, and albums. These are meant to last for generations and they’re such a beautiful way to enjoy your images beyond just your phone or Instagram.
Do you photograph events?
I do, occasionally! I take on a small number of events like birthday parties, small weddings, anniversaries, and fundraisers throughout the year. If you’ve got something special in the works, reach out with the details- I’d love to see if it’s a good fit!
