Welcoming a new baby into the world is such a sweet, fleeting season- and I’m so honored to help capture it. Lifestyle newborn sessions are all about real moments, snuggles and the little details that make your family’s story so special. But if your wondering how to get ready for your session (especially when you’re adjusting to life with a newborn!) don’t worry- I’ve got you. Here are some simple tips for how to prepare for your lifestyle newborn session.
Don’t Stress About a Perfect House
Seriously. I’m not here to photograph your home- just the people in it. We’ll use areas of your home with the best natural light, usually the master bedroom, living room, or nursery. A quick tidy-up in those spaces (think: clearing nightstands or tossing laundry into a basket) is all that’s needed. No deep cleaning, I promise.

Feed Baby Right Before
If baby has a full tummy before we start, they’ll be extra snuggly and sleepy- which is exactly what we want. Whether you’re nursing or bottle feeding, giving baby a full feeding right before I arrive helps the session run smoothly.

Dress Comfortably (and Keep it Simple)
Soft neutrals photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your baby and connection. Think cozy knits, flowy dresses and simple layers. Avoid busy patterns or logos. For dads, a plain tee or henley and jeans work great. For siblings, soft textures and light colors look timeless. And don’t overthink it- I’m always happy to help you pull pieces together if you’re unsure.

Let Baby Lead the Way
Lifestyle sessions are baby-led, which means we go at your little one’s pace. There’s no pressure for baby to “perform.” If they need a break to eat, cry, or snuggle- we pause and roll with it. Some of my favorite images happen in those unplanned in-between moments.

Relax and Be Present
I’ll gently guide you through natural poses and prompts, but mostly I want you to just be. Snuggle your baby, talk to you family, let siblings explore and be their wiggly selves. The magic happens when you’re simply connecting as a family.

If you take anything from this post, let it be this: your newborn session isn’t about perfection- it’s about presence. It’s a quiet pause to soak in this beautiful new chapter and created something you’ll treasure for years to come. Can’t wait to meet your sweet little one and capture this special season!
